App Store Downloads 15 Billion and counting...

The App Store is celebrating its birthday, on Sunday, July 10th, to be exact. And just in time before it turns 3, Apple has announced its new milestone – 15 billion downloads.

A remarkable feat helped out by the 425,000 strong apps currently available at app store that started it all, and the over 200 million iOS users across the globe.

To date, Apple has reportedly paid over $2.5 billion to developers. If you do the math – 70% goes to developers, the rest goes to Cupertino – Apple scored themselves over $1M off just apps alone. Not a bad way to earn a million dollars, eh?

Apple’s latest achievement just proves my point – the iPhone is, without question, a great cash cow for the company, but the real money is in the App Store.
