5,000 new malicious Android apps identified in first quarter of 2012

According to Trend Micro, a global leader in antivirus cloud computing security and internet content security software and services, approxinately 5,000 new malicious apps were identified in the first three months of 2012.
Smartphones or tablets especially Android OS are commonly used these days for surfing and gaming, and suffering these days from cyber criminal attacks because of unwanted apps and careless user.

“One big reason for the popularity of apps is their ease of use. Browsing the net on your mobile phone is not the same experience as doing it on a laptop… The key thing to remember is to think before you give an app access to your data… If you have any doubts about giving oversensitive information, just don’t do it.”

— Robert McArdle, Trend Micro Senior Threat Researcher
Unauthorized apps will surely kill your Android experience especially if adds a new feature, a feature that users don't want, a virus. The popular news last month were the fake Temple Run that delivers virus to your phone, so be careful.
Malware is very easy to spread when you don't have any ideas on what site you are currently surfing, what files you are currently downloading, and what apps you are installing. This topic is not that surprising because of some news reported few years ago, and became more interesting today because of that huge number of malware.

Just be careful and be informed enough on what apps you download, its source and reliability.
